SAN DIEGO — Wolcott High senior Chris Bendtsen came in 27th overall with a time of 15 minutes and 50 seconds at the 2009 Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals on Saturday.

The race was marred by an uncharacteristic downpour and an unseasonably cooler temperature of 62 degrees.

This fall, Bendsten came in second in the State Open and New England championships and captured the Class M state and Naugatuck Valley League title.

Saturday’s winning time of 15:08 was turned in by Lukas Verzbicas of Orland Hills, Ill.

The Skills USA students participated in the Touch-A-Truck sponsored by the Junior Women’s Club of Wolcott. It was a huge success! All kinds of trucks were exhibited. Children and adults of all ages climbed aboard and beeped the horns of fire trucks, military trucks, construction trucks, and many more. It was a very exciting and noisy afternoon!

WHS DECA CHAPTER SHOWS UP IN FORCE AT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

On October 22nd, fifty-five of Wolcott High’s seventy-two DECA members attended the Annual Fall DECA Leadership Conference held at the Aqua Turf. No other Connecticut high school chapter had more of its members in attendance. All students attended three workshops that were mentally and physically engaging. The presentations centered on trust, accountability, creativity and strategic planning.

At the conference, Wolcott’s DECA Chapter was acknowledged both for achieving 100% chapter membership and for its performance on the 2009 state assessments. DECA is a national association of 185,000 marketing students whose goal is to improve education and career opportunities for students interested in marketing, management and entrepreneurship.

Visual Communications Students Design a School Profile Folder

As a part of a Graphic Design project, students in Mrs. Miele’s Visual Communications classes had to design a Profile folder that would represent Wolcott High School. This folder will be used for seniors applying to colleges all around the country. The Profile gives colleges a picture of Wolcott High School and what is offered to our students.
The challenge of this project was to be able to design a folder that would be appropriate for the admissions departments of colleges, not something that the students would design for themselves. The folder needed to show the best of Wolcott High School in one quick glance.
After days of hard work by the Visual Communications students, the Wolcott High School guidance counselors went through every folder until they found the one that they thought represented our school the best. A senior (who wishes to remain anonymous) from Mrs. Miele’s Visual Communications I class was chosen. His hard work paid off and he is honored that his work will represent Wolcott High School.
